Prior to July 15, 2026, all contempt cases were represented by the Department for Public Advocacy (DPA). During the 2026 Regular Session, House Bill 762 (HB 762) was enacted into law. HB 762, together with KRS 31.110(6), limits DPA representation in contempt-of-court proceedings involving noncompliance with a court-ordered obligation to cases involving a criminal prosecution or conviction, or an action or adjudication involving a public or status offense.
