Buildings and Properties
The Finance and Administration Cabinet's Department for Facilities and Support Services is responsible for the commonwealth’s capital construction program; real property acquisition, disposition and leasing services; the daily operation and maintenance of state-owned office properties and surplus property services.
The Office of Building and Mechanical Services provides building and grounds maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and electronic security to state-owned facilities across the commonwealth. It consists of two divisions, the Division of Building Services and the Division of Mechanical Services.
The Division of Real Properties manages the commonwealth’s real property resources. Responsibilities include the acquisition of real property required by the commonwealth (excluding highway right-of-way); maintaining an accurate inventory of both owned and leased state properties; maintaining files on all property owned by the state (excluding highway right-of-way); managing of state government parking facilities within the Franklin County area; leasing of land and/or buildings for use by state agencies when state-owned land and/or buildings are not available or suitable; maintaining space assignment records of all state-owned buildings managed by the cabinet; preparing of quarterly occupancy charges for all cabinet-managed buildings; and approving all building renovations and alterations of those buildings. There are three branches in the Division of Real Properties: Leased Properties Branch; State Properties Branch; and Inventory Compliance and Utilization Branch.
