Marriage and Family Therapists

The purpose of the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy is to administer and enforce the statutory authority and to monitor the needs of the consuming public. The Board examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession of Marriage and Family Therapy. It recommends appropriate changes in the law to assure fairness and equality. The Board conducts formal hearings when necessary and prosecutes by due process any violators of KRS 335.300 to 335.399.

The board typically meets on the third Thursday and begin at 9:30 a.m. with committee meetings to begin at 8:30 a.m.  (Some dates below do not follow this procedure.)

All meetings will be held at the Division of Occupations and Professions, 911 Leawood Drive, Frankfort, Kentucky.

Meeting dates/times are subject to change.

Effective immediately all applications and documentation must be received in the board office 10 business days prior to the board meeting date to be put on the agenda. If this deadline is not met, it will automatically be added to the next month's agenda.
Following board meetings please allow up to two weeks for follow-up correspondence. If you have not received written correspondence from the Board two weeks after the meeting, feel free to call. Please be advised that application and test results will not be given over the phone.

Individuals wishing to speak at the board meeting must submit a written request to the board office at P.O. Box 1360, Frankfort, KY 40602 no later than 10 days prior to the meeting in order to be placed on the agenda.

The February 21, 2008 board meeting will be held at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky at 9:30 a.m.

April 2007

January 15, 2007 – February 10, 2007

May 21, 2007 – June 16, 2007

September 17, 2007 – October 13, 2007

2008 Exam Dates:

January 14, 2008 – February 9, 2008

May 19, 2008 – June 14, 2008

September 15, 2008 – October 11, 2008

The Kentucky Board of Licensure of Marriage and Family Therapists recently made a decision to allow applicants who have been approved as Marriage and Family Therapist Associate to be eligible to take the national Marital and Family Therapist exam at their own discretion.

The exam dates are posted on this Web site.

The exam service will send the board office "Information for Candidates" packets containing all necessary forms and instruction to apply for the exam. A packet will be mailed to each eligible candidate.

You must complete all other requirements in order to be eligible for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist.

PLEASE DISCONTINUE USING GREEN APPLICATIONS FOR COMPUTERIZED TESTING FOR THE EXAMINATION IN MARITAL AND FAMILY THERAPY FORM IMMEDIATELY.  NEW ORANGE SCANNABLE FORMS WERE MAILED ON JULY 27, 2006 FROM THE BOARD OFFICE.  IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE YOURS BY AUGUST 14, 2007 PLEASE CONTACT THE BOARD OFFICE VIA E-MAIL AT carolyn.kyler@ky.gov REQUESTING ONE BE SENT TO YOU.  BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR NAME, MAILING ADDRESS AND LICENSE NUMBER.  EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY ALL GREEN APPLICATION FORMS WILL BE RETURNED TO YOU BY PES.
