FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 31, 2014) Students at private schools, home-schooled students and adult students in Kentucky can set up a free individual learning plan (ILP) to help them with their college and career planning by creating a free MyKHEAA account at www.kheaa.com.

The ILP is offered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) in partnership with Career Cruising. Career Cruising also provides the ILP that is used by the state’s public schools.

Maire McCormick, the counselor at Owensboro Catholic Middle School, is glad KHEAA provides the ILP.

“This program allows our students to really start gathering their thoughts about their future and where they are headed,” she said. “By filling out the different areas of their ILP, they see where gaps may exist in their résumé, and it encourages them to become more involved at school and in the community.”

Principal Beth Hendrickson at St. Ann School in Morganfield said she schedules time to work on ILPs throughout the school year.

“One good thing is that when our students leave St. Ann School and travel to the local high school or one of the area Catholic high schools, their ILP will travel with them,” she said. “In the past, students would have a paper copy of the ILP, but it did not do them much good.”

KHEAA is the state agency that administers the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES), need-based grants and other programs to help students pay their higher education expenses.
